TYPES OF HOUSING IN CHOA CHU KANG
Choa Chu Kang is a densely populated planning area with more than 186,000 residents. Its rapid population growth started in 1985 when the Housing and Development Board constructed the first HDB blocks. Until now, public housing is still the most popular type of residential properties in this area. There are 8 main neighborhoods which are mainly located in four subzones: Teck Whye, Yew Tee, Choa Chu Kang North, and Choa Chu Kang Central.
Public Housing or HDB Flats
There are a variety of sizes and designs HDB flats. Usually, these public housing apartments come with three, four, and five rooms. In each block are accessible community services and facilities such as schools, hospitals, supermarkets, gyms, and parks. This is the most common type of housing in the region due to its affordability and accessibility.
Condominiums
Another type of housing in Choa Chu Kang is condominiums. These are more modern and luxury buildings compared to HDB flats, as condominiums are constructed for those who have more generous incomes. Compared to public housing, the sizes of these flats are often larger. More importantly, these types of buildings include more premium facilities. Majority of residents in condominiums are young couples or middle-income households.
Private Housing
The least common type of housing in Choa Chu Kang. In the north of the area, you can find private houses in the style of bungalows, detached houses, or terrace houses. These properties are usually equipped with yards, pools, or gardens. Both the central location and premium facilities of these properties make it extremely expensive to own. However, property owners can enjoy ultimate privacy and unlimited building rights, setting them apart from residents in HDB flats and condominiums.
