OVERVIEW OF NEWTON NEIGHBORHOOD
Newton is a planning area which is based in Singapore’s Central Area. It shares borders with Rochor in the east, Kallang in the northeast, Novena in the north, Tanglin in the west, and Museum and Orchard in the south. It is currently divided into 6 different subzones, including Orange Grove, Newton Circus, Monk’s Hill, Istana Negara, Goodwood Park, and Cairhill. The area begins at the Newton Circus located in the south and finishes at the north junction with Thomson Road. Newton occupies the north area of the famous Orchard Road shopping belt and also includes the Istana, the office, and private residence of the President. This is a commercial and business area with many shopping malls, parks, entertainment facilities, and other structures. It is also a major site for hawker centers, with a variety of local and exotic dishes in the Newton Food Center. Another distinctive structure in this region is the Newton Circus, a 12-meter wide circular carriageway that has eight converging roads, including Scotts, Clemenceau, Bukit Timah, Kampong Java, Keng Lee, Newton, Dunearn, and Bukit Timah.
